What Is It With Jews And Guns?

By Burt Prelutsky of Townhall.com

The other day, a friend of mine asked me why I thought those on the left hate guns so much. My initial reaction was to acknowledge that I have a tough time getting a handle on anything liberals say or think or do. It all seems wacky to me.

Frankly, having given it some thought, I believe the reason that the Left hates guns so much is because of us Jews. With very few exceptions, we are terribly squeamish around firearms. The fear is totally irrational. It’s not just that we think someone will shoot us with our own gats, but that the guns, themselves, are anti-Semites, and will kill us of their own accord.

Sadly, it’s more than that. They also fear those Americans whom they most closely associate with gun ownership; namely, southern Christians.

tiger,

Long ago, over what now seems an eternity, I had the chance to give an opinion to then Prime Minister Netanyahu, via an ADL function at schule. It was my opinion then, as it is now, that the single greatest untapped font of goodwill available to Israel in the United States is evangelical Christianity. Mr. Netanyahu “gets it” but, sadly, as you observe, far too many Jews do not.

Thanks!

Allen, I was hoping you would drop by. Thanks.

I think this is exactly what Burt Prelutsky is saying. I emailed him and asked him to elaborate or perhaps write another piece on the subject. We'll see if he does.

Most sensible people know something concerning the history of Judaism and Christianity, and the mistakes and tribulations thereof, but times have changed, IMO.

One of my great disappointments with the Repubs, in the last 6+ years, is the lack of support for Israel and the apparent embrace of fundamentalist Islam! This endangers Christians AND Jews!

tiger,

Sorry to take so long getting back; my lawn needed attention before evening. Since I can find no Palestinians to exploit here in middle Georgia, I have to do it myself.

Yeah, much wrath has come my way for my failure to see Mr. Bush as “the best president the Jews have ever had.” Sorry, but almost from day one, this crew has attempted to shove a series of “peace plans” down our throats. In my estimation, each has been successively worse. Yoni, the blogger, had a thread up a few days ago bewailing the US drive to accelerate talks with the PA. As you may have seen, yesterday, the Germans have weighed in; essentially trying to give Mr. Olmert and the “peace plan” covering fire. Rice may still be in the region, but I’m not sure. Cheney is coming shortly. Despite all the predictions of Olmert's early demise, I am not counting on it.

Excuse the rambling, the day spent in battling lawn pests at home and Jew-haters on the net has left me “verklempt”.

Lest I forget, all the blessings of Shabbat to you and yours. As you may have noticed, my observance is wanting. I am reminded of R. Donin, who complained he was tired of hearing of “good” Jews; instead, he wanted to hear of Jews doing “good.” I have always resented his having failed to provide a third choice.
;-)

Mr. Tiger, Maybe Springfield Armory, Smith and Wesson, Berreta or Glock could create a powerful designer gun for Jewish people to buy. Maybe it could be called "Shprits Kiskes"? ("Spray guts/intestines").
