It's The Lying I Can't Stand

One of the most foul statements that come out of the mouths of conservatives is that, "illegal immigrants do the work that Americans refuse to do".

I grew up in rural Gadsden County in Florida. At age 5 I started work in the Tobacco fields "toting" and later progressed to "priming". Those of you who have done this kind of work know how rough it is. I also worked the vegetable fields. Having worked since age 5 earns you money but you also have to deal with health problems later in life. These talking heads that come on television supporting illegal immigration don't realize how many Americans have done this sort of work.

They lie. They say that we don't have Americans that will do this. Read the "Title Link" and you'll see that the unemployment rate is not really what you think!

There is something inherently racist about the claim that the U.S. needs illegals to do the "dirty work" and without them we'd be lost.

The suggestion that American-born citizens and legal immigrants refuse to hold these jobs, so it's necessary for the U.S. to have a labor force of illegals to pick up the slack, is crazy.

Not true.

People will work. In fact, I think a lot of people do the kinds of jobs it's claimed they will not do. Much of it may be done in the underground economy or doesn't get reported.
